Hester The Punishment Doesn?t Always Fit the Crime The reddened Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a book about Hester Prynne, a woman whose ane night of passion leads to a bread and butter of punishment. It takes place in a Puritan society in the New World during the 17th century. Hester commits adultery with the Reverend Dimmesdale and is sentenced to assume a letter ?A? on her bosom for the substitute of her life.
